Sustainable water management

At a time when water scarcity is becoming a real problem even in Central Europe, it is time to change our approach to managing this life-giving resource.

Water will probably become even scarcer in the future, so we can also expect price rises. Think efficiently and improve water management at your home or cottage!

Using a rainwater tank is a simple way to use rainfall to obtain completely free utility water!

How rainwater tanks work

The shaft is made of welded polypropylene plates, reinforced against backfill soil pressure. It is equipped with openings for inlet and outlet pipes and inside there is space for the water meter and associated valves. It is also provided with a plastic ladder for accessibility and two plastic lids.

KELLNER plastic tanks are mounted underground and designed to be set into concrete to ensure strength and long service life. A considerable advantage of plastic tanks, especially in terms of transport costs, is their low weight. Pipes and a pump can be connected to the tank to transport the rainwater accumulated in the tank.

Maintenance is not difficult.

KELLNER self-supporting rainwater tanks are tested and approved by the state testing laboratory TZÚS Praha and are watertight.

Detail information

Is a rainwater harvesting tank a solution for me?

Consider a self-supporting rainwater harvesting tank if you are asking yourself at least one of these questions:

  • How can I reduce my water bill?
  • How can I use rainwater efficiently?

The Kellner self-supporting rainwater tank is designed to be mounted on the foundation slab without the need for concrete. The rainwater tank allows you to retain rainwater from your roof and then use it to water your flower beds, lawn or orchard. They are currently the most popular for garden watering:

  • 5000L rainwater tank
  • Rainwater tank 3000L

The principle of installation and operation of the plastic rainwater tank is simple - the end of the gutter downspout is connected via a filter to the sump. From the rainwater tank, the retained water is then transported by pump to the irrigation site as required, for example to lawn sprinklers or drip irrigation for flowerbeds. Rainwater can also be used for other activities such as toilet flushing, household cleaning or car washing. According to research, even washing clothes using rainwater is not a problem.

On the other hand, rainwater is not suitable for drinking and cooking because of possible bacterial contamination from contact with the atmosphere, roofing or guttering. Such accumulated water in the rainwater tank must be filtered by a special water treatment plant.

The inlet to the rainwater harvesting tank is via a pipe with a diameter of 100 mm, the outlet pipe has a diameter of 40 mm.

Drought is a real threat

The water mains as the only source of water may not be sufficient in the near future. Water scarcity in the countryside is becoming a reality even in the Czech Republic, and it is therefore necessary to look for sustainable sources of drinking water.

Several dry years in a row show that rainwater harvesting systems should be taken into account when designing the house and garden. Not only will these solutions allow you to reduce water costs, but they can also save you from complete unavailability of water for irrigation. In fact, some municipalities prohibit watering gardens and filling swimming pools with fresh water during the dry season. The number of such affected localities in the Czech Republic has been growing recently.

Why choose a rainwater harvesting tank from us?

KELLNER has been operating in the Czech Republic for more than 25 years. We have many years of experience in the production of plastic rainwater tanks, which has always made our customers satisfied.

As far as the range of plastic rainwater tanks is concerned, you can choose from ten types of rainwater tanks with different volumes, dimensions and in all price categories. We also offer the possibility of producing a customized rainwater tank according to your requirements.

We are aware that it is not easy to choose an underground rainwater tank. We will therefore be happy to help you with your choice. In fact, a plastic self-supporting rainwater tank is one of the most economical and most cost-effective options for having enough water for your own use in the future.

Think about the future and choose a Kellner rainwater tank. It will pay off.

Water over gold - save the beneficial liquid with a rainwater harvesting tank

Water scarcity is not only affecting desert areas at the moment. Problems with the availability of drinking water in particular are increasingly affecting us Europeans too. Just think how summer has changed over the last few years. On sultry days, the land is parched and the gardens turn into an arid wasteland. When the weather rewards us with a rain shower, the parched soil cannot absorb the water and it runs off without being used. Keeping a garden green is no longer worthwhile - tap water is becoming more expensive and few people have their own well.

Have you thought many times about how to preserve valuable water from rain clouds for later use, not only for gardening but also for other activities? From your childhood, you must remember the barrel under the eaves from which your grandmother used to scoop water for watering. But today, there is a more modern solution that allows you to use rainwater for more than just gardening. This solution is the underground rainwater tank, or self-supporting rainwater tank. This is a sump with an overflow that has everything you need to conveniently connect to the irrigation system in your garden.

Rainwater storage tanks

A soakaway sump is used to divert and collect rainwater underground. A soakaway sump is used to control rainwater from surfaces such as roofs, pavements, car parks or paved areas. A soakage sump helps to minimize surface runoff of stormwater, which can be useful when it is not feasible or appropriate to convey stormwater to a sanitary sewer or other drainage system. The main purpose of a soakaway sump is to allow rainwater to slowly infiltrate into the subsoil where it is gradually absorbed into the underlying aquifers.

Frequently asked questions

This is just another name for a technical water tank, including rainwater tank, which is used to hold water and then use it. Retention tanks are distinguished between self-supporting and non-self-supporting tanks, and according to the material, most often concrete and plastic retention tanks.

The size of the rainwater tank depends on several factors that you should consider when determining the appropriate size of the rainwater tank:

  • Roof size: the area of the roof from which rainwater will subsequently be discharged into the retention tank is the determining factor. The size of the area and the average rainfall in the area are calculated as part of the calculation of the expert opinion for the "Rainwater harvesting" grant.
  • Climatic conditions: the amount of rainfall in the area where the rainwater harvesting areas are located.
  • Water consumption: you need to think about how you want to use rainwater? Will it be used only for watering the garden, flushing the toilet, washing the car or for other purposes? According to this, it is advisable to determine how big a rainwater tank you need.
  • Length of the dry season: if you live in an area with long periods without rainfall, you will need a larger rainwater tank to be able to "store" more water for the dry season.
  • Available space: how much space do you have available to install a rainwater tank
How much space do you have available for rainwater harvesting? This is also a consideration when deciding how large a rainwater tank to install
    to choose.

It is important to make a detailed calculation based on your specific situation and needs. You should also consult with a water or ecology expert to help you decide on the appropriate size of the rainwater tank.

Standard plastic tanks and sumps have several main advantages over concrete ones.

Plastic tanks and sumps have less weight than concrete structures. This makes them easier to transport, handle and install.

Plastic tanks and sumps are resistant to corrosion and erosive processes, making them suitable for storing or processing aggressive chemicals or other corrosive substances. Concrete may be sensitive to certain chemicals and may require protective coatings or other treatments.

If the focus is on durability, then plastic tanks and sumps typically have an equal or longer service life. They are resistant to weather effects such as temperature and humidity changes and are not prone to cracking and material destruction, which affects their strength and functionality.

Plastic tanks and sumps do not require as much maintenance as concrete structures. The plastic material is smooth and does not absorb substances, making it easier to clean and remove debris.

Plastic tanks and sumps are usually cheaper to manufacture, transport and install than concrete tanks.
